PELHAM— To complete renovations to Pelham High School’s auditorium, the Pelham Board of Education awarded a bid of $809,000 to Littleton Electric Service, Inc., at its special called meeting Oct. 22.
This is the second phase of the renovation project and includes the lighting and electrical work. The theatre will be gaining an LED light system that allows technical crews to both adjust the lights and change the color of the lights from the booth.
This new system will limit the amount of foot traffic on the auditorium’s catwalk rigging system, located above the stage.
Littleton Electric will also update the theatre’s audio, video and sound systems.
“Those two things together have fallen into the budget of what we anticipated and we hope to have this completed by the spring performances,” said Superintendent Dr. Scott Coefield.
He said this meeting was called four days prior to the regularly scheduled Board of Education meeting to give the contractors additional time to order supplies for the project.
The goal is to complete the project before the spring events, such as the spring musical, at the high school.
The first phase of the project included repairs to the roof and air conditioning, along with general work. The stage will feature a new floor that can be painted for each show, and the auditorium will have fresh paint.
“It’ll be a lot nicer,” Coefield said. “The lighting and all that stuff (will be upgraded)… The air conditioning will work, the roof will not leak and all the audio, video, screen and projection and the lights should be nice.”
