HELENA–The week of Oct. 12 will mark the celebration of Homecoming week for the second season as the Helena Huskies prepare to take on the Sumter Central Jaguars.
In addition to the game, many festivities around the city of Helena will be happening, including the second annual Paint the Town Husky contest.
The Paint the Town Husky contest is sponsored by both APH Radio and the Helena Athletic Association, and the idea behind the contest is to get as many local businesses in Helena to decorate and show their Husky pride.
The contest is labeled as a friendly competition where businesses that participate can decorate their storefront, windows or wherever else they feel they can show Husky pride.
Last year, the winner of the inaugural Paint the Town Husky contest was The Depot Deli & Grill that featured a variety of decorations showing support for the Huskies.
There will be no cost to register but businesses that participate must do so no later than Saturday, Oct. 10 to be considered part of the contest.
Kristi Scozzaro of Scozzaro Law, LLC, helps organize the contest and she is hoping more businesses will participate this year now that the contest is in its second year.
“Last year was the first year for the high school and we had 16 businesses register,” said Scozzaro. “We are hoping we have more businesses participate this year as the winner of the contest will receive a gift basket from the HAA and a certificate to display at their business.”
In addition to the gift basket and certificate, Scozzaro also said that the winning business would receive a shout out over the public address system at the game congratulating them on the victory.
Each business that participates in the contest will also be mentioned on the public address system.
Helena will face off against Sumter Central on Friday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. at Helena Husky Stadium.
Businesses interested in registering must do so by calling 624-3367 or emailing Paintthetownhusky@gmail.com.
