HARPERSVILLE – The struggles continued Friday night for the Coosa Valley Rebels when they took on the Macon-East Knights. Coosa Valley fought hard early in the contest, holding the Knights scoreless for most of the first quarter and even making a goal line stand in the process. However, the momentum was short lived. The Rebels turned the ball over two plays later and the Knights immediately responded with a 7-yard touchdown run by John David Jeter. Macon-East lead modestly after one, 7-0.

In the second quarter, the Knights hit their stride and struck for two more touchdowns. The first went to Channy Blackwell and the second to Ty Thomas on a 54-yard touchdown catch. This gave the Knights a commanding 21-0 halftime lead.

Midway through the third quarter Coosa Valley showed some life after Baylee Pollard snagged a 26-yard touchdown catch on a fourth and long Hail Mary pass. This brought the score to a more manageable 21-7.

After several turnovers were committed by both teams, the Knights scored their final touchdown with less than five minutes remaining in the game on a 6-yard quarterback keeper by Will Dowe. The Rebels bowed out fighting however, scoring on a 20-yard touchdown pass to Easton Hopkins with a minute left to play. Macon-East won, 28-13.

Even after another loss, Coach Steve McCord saw a silver lining. “We let them have some big plays. You can’t do that. However, our effort was better tonight.”
