VINCENT – Vincent’s fifth attempt at its first win of the 2015 season fell short Friday, Sept. 25, at home against the Tigers of B.B. Comer.
The Tigers ran for nearly 230 yards in the first half against the Yellow Jackets, scoring five touchdowns on the ground. B.B. Comer was also able to return an interception for a touchdown, as well as return two punts for scores in a 54-0 blowout, with all points coming in the first half.
After Vincent’s first offensive series ended in a three and out, the Tigers blocked the ensuing punt, leading to their first score of the night.
The Yellow Jackets had a tough time containing the much bigger Tigers defensive line all night, and were never able to generate much on offense. The Jackets appeared to have something working on their second drive, as quarterback Matt Swift found Zackary Fincher for a 48-yard gain, but Vincent was unable to advance the ball after that.
Jason Childers led the Jackets with 14 yards on nine carries. Alvin Burton led the way for the Tigers with 132 yards and three touchdowns on the ground, along with a punt return touchdown.
“We can’t control the past. We can’t control what happened the play before,” Coach Jason Hill said. “But we can control our attitude and effort, and that’s what we’re going to work on this week.”
The Yellow Jacket’s quest for their first win will continue against Thorsby on Oct. 2 at home.
