TUSCALOOSA – A number of Shelby County schools, including Oak Mountain, Thompson and Indian Springs traveled to Tuscaloosa on Sept. 19 to compete in the TCBY Invitational, hosted by American Christian Academy.

The Oak Mountain boys dominated the meet, finishing first in the 4A-7A meet with four of the top six scorers crossing the finish line in an Eagles jersey. Oak Mountain junior Cole Stidfole, current holder of the fastest 5K time in the state for 2015, sat the meet out. Oak Mountain’s Caleb Van Geffen and Sean Drummond, a senior and a junior, respectively, finished first and second at the meet with times of 16:31.84 and 16:40.80 to claim the top two spots. Chris Tate and Matthew Hazelwood finished fifth and sixth with times of 17:27.23 and 17:29.12 to lead the way for Oak Mountain.

Thompson finished fifth in the 4A-7A meet out of 14 teams and was led by Brandon DeMarcus Lee, who finished eighth overall with a time of 17:45.85. Conner Murphy was the second-place finisher for the Warriors with a time of 18:12.44, good enough for 14^th overall.

Indian Springs finished fifth out of sixth in the 1A-3A meet and was led by Greyson Flint with a time of 19:30.96, good enough for 14^th.

The top girls finisher at the meet was Meisi Jacobs from Oak Mountain who finished with a time of 22:06.38. Oak Mountain was without freshman sensation Nicole Payne on the day, which affected the Eagles’ overall seventh-place finish out of 11 teams.

Thompson finished the 4A-7A meet in eighth place and was led by Gracie Keller who finished with a time of 22:45.19.

Indian Springs finished the 1A-3A meet in third place out of four teams and was led by Carolyn Calvert-Grimes, who crossed the finish line in 23:00.66.
