HELENA–The Helena Police Department posted on social media declaring a search was underway for a missing child on the afternoon of Friday Sept. 18, near the Helena area and it has been updated that she has been located.

The Helena Police and Fire Departments, along with several neighboring agencies, including members of the Bibb County Correctional Facility, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and the Pelham Police Department searched areas near Shelby County 13 for a young runaway juvenile. The girl was said to be a young, white female approximately 11-years-old, according to the social media posts.

According to Sgt. Chris Rollan with the Helena Police Department, the girl had been missing since 7 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 18.

“It was determined that the girl was absent from school,” said Rollan. “When the school contacted the residence notifying the absence, the residence became alarmed and we began a search.”

The girl was located at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18, after a passerby noticed a girl kneeling by the woods at the intersection of Shelby County 52 and Shelby County 13, according to Rollan.

“The girl was located and was transported to Children’s Hospital for precautionary reasons and possible dehydration,” said Rollan. “Other than that she is in stable condition and is OK.”
