ALABASTER – A 19-year-old Alabaster woman is facing a felony domestic violence charge after allegedly strangling one of her parents during a Sept. 16 altercation, according to Shelby County District Court records.
The Alabaster Police Department arrested Shaina Courtney Cid, who lists an address on Willow Creek Parkway, on Sept. 17 and charged her with one felony count of domestic violence by strangulation or suffocation and one misdemeanor count of unauthorized use of a vehicle.
Cid’s arrest came after a Sept. 16 incident, during which Cid allegedly choked one of her parents and then allegedly used the parent’s 2015 Toyota Corolla without permission, according to her arrest warrants.
Domestic violence by strangulation or suffocation is a Class B felony, according to Alabama law, and is punishable by up to 20 years in prison upon conviction.
As of Sept. 18, Cid had already had her initial appearance in court, during which a public defender was appointed to represent her. The day after her arrest, she was still being held in the Shelby County Jail on bonds totaling $16,000.
She is now scheduled to appear in Shelby County District Court for a preliminary hearing on Oct. 15 at 8:30 a.m.
