Pelham Police, Sheriff’s deputies arrest car burglary suspect

Shelby County Sheriff’s investigators, and the Pelham Police Department arrested 18-year-old Ian Tyler Rettig Sept. 8 in connection to a residential robbery and a string of eight car burglaries.

Pelham investigators identified Rettig as a potential theft suspect in a residential burglary, and served him with a search warrant at his Chelsea residence. Pelham police requested assistance from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, which led to the discovery of stolen items from various car burglaries in the Chelsea and Sterrett area.

Rettig was placed in custody by Sheriff’s investigators and charged with eight counts of unlawful breaking and entering a vehicle and Pelham police have charged him with burglary and third-degree theft of property.

Rettig has been released on a $50,000 bond from the Shelby County Jail.

Sheriff John Samaniego credited the Pelham Police Department with Rettig’s arrest and thanked them for their collaborative effort in a Sept. 10 press release.

“We are all very fortunate to have such a positive and professional working relationship with each agency in our county and I believe the citizens are better served as a result of such,” he said.
