PELHAM— The event created by the Dixie Divas and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama is revving up for it’s seventh year in Pelham. Revvin’ 4 Research, a motorcycle ride that raises money to support breast cancer research in Alabama, will be Oct. 4 at the Heart of Dixie Harley-Davidson.

“It’s so fun to come out and see it,” said Elizabeth Bradner, executive director of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama.  “It’s an array of pink. They are all out there rocking the pink on the ride, and people are so passionate about it because they are affected by it. ”

Registration will begin at 11 a.m. and the ride begins at 1 p.m. at the Heart of Dixie Harley-Davidson Center. Motorcyclists will take back roads on the 30-40 minute ride up to Riders Harley-Davidson in Trussville. After a quick break and a snack, they will head back to Pelham.

Breast cancer survivors also have the option to ride on the back of someone’s motorcycle or take a limo ride along side the riders. The annual ride has raised about $100,000 since the inaugural ride in 2009.

Last year, Revvin’ 4 Research had about 300 riders sign up, and the event netted about $10,000, according to Bradner. This year, she said she hopes to have about 400 people signed up and net between $12,000-$15,000.

“All of the money will support breast cancer research in the state of Alabama,” Bradner said. “Our organization began in 1986 to raise money for breast cancer research, and since that time we have reached over $5.1 million.”

After the police-escorted ride, Harley-Davison will have vendors set up and participants can enjoy live music by the Sinners. Courtyard Oyster Bar and Coca Cola Bottling Company will provide a complimentary lunch, and there will be door prizes for registered riders.

Registration is $35 per rider or $50 for two riders on the same motorcycle and includes a free event T-shirt. For more information or to register, visit Revvin4research.com.
