Bell reaches career milestone as Falcons sweep pair of matches

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – University of Montevallo senior Carissa Bell recorded her 1,000th career dig while leading the Falcons to a 3-0 sweep of Lenoir-Rhyne University in the Queens University Invitational event Sept. 5.
The reigning co-Libero of the Year in the Peach Belt Conference registered a match-high 34 digs, giving her 1,018 career digs after three matches of her senior season in her four-year career at Montevallo.
Senior Nicole Holton registered the first double-double of her career with 11 kills and 11 digs as the Falcons recorded a 25-16, 25-23, 25-23 sweep of the Bears, who participated in the NCAA Division II Tournament a year ago.
Sophomore Breana Thomas also recorded 11 kills while posting a team-high four blocks. Fellow sophomoreKristy Bohan chipped in 10 kills.
Senior Briana Marquez just missed a double-double with nine digs to go along with a team-high 34 assists.
Senior Carissa Bell finished the match with 28 digs. Senior Rebekah Phelps added 11 digs.
Sophomore Natalie Twyford and Thomas paced the Falcons with eight kills each in a 3-0 sweep of the University of Mount Olive in their final match of the event Sept. 5.
The Falcons swept the Trojans 25-20, 25-10, 25-23.
Holton and Bohan added six kills each. Marquez finished with a match-high 15 assists.
Holton and sophomore Grace Harris led Montevallo with seven digs each.
Montevallo will be back in action next weekend at the University of North Alabama Invitational in Florence, Ala. The Falcons will face Southern Wesleyan in their first match of the event Friday, Sept. 11 at 2 p.m.
