HELENA–It was all Huskies, all the time as Helena jumped on the Wilcox Central Jaguars early in a blow out victory at Husky Stadium on Friday, Sept. 4.
Helena racked up 34 first quarter points and never looked back in a convincing win that saw numerous players see game action.
Helena head coach Watt Parker said it was an all-around good night and he was happy to see some of the younger guys see some playing time.
“It was great to get a lot of the young guys see playing time because they work hard,” said Parker. “Our older guys in the second half did a pretty good job of staying out and communicating with the young guys. Coach Laatsch talked to them and the quote for the night was ‘eating,’ you want to be engaged, attentive to your teammates and teach them. It was a good night and hopefully we’ll be ready for a much stronger Dallas County team next week.”
Helena took the opening possession and scored on its second play from scrimmage.
Helena quarterback Riley Davis connected with senior wide receiver Phildon Dublin for a 33-yard touchdown that put the Huskies up 7-0 early.
Wilcox Central struggled with penalties and also committed two turnovers in the game.
One of those Jaguar turnovers came near the end of the first quarter as Helena’s Kendall Williams intercepted a Jaguars pass and returned it 40 yards for a touchdown on an amazing return breaking numerous tackles. This made the score 34-0 heading to the second quarter.
Three minutes into the second quarter, Davis connected with Helena wide receiver Justin Stuckey for a 60-yard touchdown making the score 41-0 in favor of the Huskies.
Helena racked up 372 yards of offense and committed zero turnovers on the night.
The Helena defense was stout the entire game as they allowed just 34 total yards while forcing two turnovers.
The second half saw numerous players and substitutions on both sides as Helena scored one last touchdown in the second half on a 56-yard touchdown run by Helena running back Copeland Rosser, bringing the final score to 55-0.
Rosser racked up 121 rushing yards on five carries that resulted in two touchdowns.
Helena moved to 2-0 on the season and will play their third home game in a row on Friday, Sept. 11, as they take on the Dallas County Hornets.
