HELENA–The committee that brought events such as the inaugural Helena Founder’s Day, Friday night at the Helena Museum and more recently elected new officers.
The Helena Historic Preservation Committee recently held its yearly elections and plans to have another big year in Helena.
Helena Historic Preservation Committee president Shannon O’Guin discussed some of the things the committee does.
“Our goals within the committee are to try and bring speakers ever so often to talk about various aspects of history to Helena and we’re pretty heavily involved with First Friday and with the museum,” said O’Guin. “Right now we’re evaluating what worked last year and how to make things better.”
The Helena Historic Preservation Committee meets on the third Sunday of every month at 2:30 p.m. in the Helena Museum. The meetings are open to the public.
O’Guin said that the meetings are always open to the public and the committee is glad to welcome new, non-voting members.
“The way that we do things is that when the committee was formed it was part of council,” said O’Guin. “We are always welcoming members who are non-voting.”
The 2015-2016 committee consists of 11 members, six of which were appointed to various positions.
In addition to O’Guin, the other positions are vice president Kara Barr, secretary Jason Redd, treasurer Linda Wurstner, media Jay Wiley and fundraising and events Charity Miller.
The new term for the committee began Sept. 1.
