CALERA – Local attorney Lori Frasure cited a desire to speed up cases in Shelby County’s District Court when announcing her candidacy for one of the court’s judge seats.

Frasure, who lives in Calera with her husband, Brad, and two daughters, is running for the seat currently occupied by District Court Judge Jim Kramer. The judge seat primarily handles the county’s juvenile cases.

If elected, Frasure said her primary goal is to help speed up Shelby County’s court process.

“Over the years, I’ve talked to different attorneys and people, and their main complaint is that they have to wait so long,” Frasure said during a Sept. 1 interview. “People wait months and months to get a hearing, and when they finally get a hearing, they have to wait around for hours at court that day.

“Court should be more prompt and efficient,” she added. “I don’t think people should wait 11 months to get a court order.”

Frasure has been living in Calera for the past 15 years, and has been practicing law for 12 years – mostly in family court in Bessemer and Birmingham. She holds a bachelor’s degree in childhood development and a master’s degree in human services, both from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University.

“I really enjoy doing that. It’s a really good fit for what I am looking to do,” Frasure said.

The District Court judge seat election likely will be determined in the Republican primary on March 1, 2016.

“I think that people are ready for a change. Hopefully, they will get it,” Frasure said.
