Local school systems rank among ‘Best Places to Teach in Alabama’

Two local school systems were recently listed among the top places to teach in Alabama by Niche, a national ranking website.
The Hoover City and Shelby County school systems were both ranked among the top 25 on Niche.com’s “Best Places to Teach in Alabama” list. Hoover City Schools came in at No. 2 on the list, while Shelby County Schools ranked 16th.
According to Niche.com, the “Best Places to Teach in Alabama” list “provides a comprehensive assessment of the quality, support and compensation a district provides to its teachers.”
Rankings were generated by evaluating school safety, resources, teacher compensation, district investment in teachers, working environment and teacher investment in the district and students.
Niche.com made evaluations using government data, public information, “Niche’s own proprietary data” and opinion surveys from students, alumni and parents.
Hoover City Schools, with an average teacher salary of $47,878 and 13 to one student-to-teacher ratio, received an A+ grade from Niche.com in overall experience, administration and policies, health and safety and resources and facilities.
Shelby County Schools was given B+ grades from Niche.com for overall experience and administration and policies. The school system received B- grades for health and safety and resources and facilities. Niche.com lists Shelby County Schools’ average teacher salary as $44,363 and the student-to-teacher ration as 15 to one.
