Calera takes down John Carroll in shortened jamboree

CALERA – In Calera’s final tune up before the regular season starts on Aug. 28 against Bibb County, the Eagles welcomed in John Carroll Catholic and took the Cavaliers down 14-0 in a game shortened by lightning.
The Eagles ran 30 plays in the game that lasted just two quarters and racked up 208 yards, 175 of those coming on the ground. Quarterback Ty Evans took the first score in from seven yards out to break the scoreless deadlock, and later scored again in the quarter from 16 yards out. Zach Gaines connected on both extra point tries.
Kyle Harrell led the way for Calera on the ground with 59 yards on five carries, while running back Trez Harris and Evans both rushed for 45 yards. Gaines caught one of two Evans throws for 17 yards while Charles White caught the other for 16 yards. White also led the way on defense with two tackles in the shortened game.
Calera travels to Bibb County to start the season on Aug. 28
