PELHAM—The Greater Shelby County Chamber of Commerce, along with the Calera and Montevallo chambers hosted an “Eggs and Issues” breakfast on Aug. 11 at 7:30 a.m. at the Pelham Civic Complex, featuring U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions.

Sessions was born in Selma and grew up in Hybart. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Huntingdon College in 1969 and a juris doctorate from the University of Alabama in 1973.

After serving as assistant Unites States attorney, Sessions was nominated by President Reagan in 1981 to serve as the Unites States attorney for the Southern district of Alabama. In 1997, Sessions entered the United States Senate after serving as the state’s chief legal officer for two years.

Sessions spoke about many of the issues that U.S. citizens are facing, such as included the national budget, the Defense bill and the Iran Deal.

Sessions said that the country is “not in a place of disaster, but we need to stick to the budget.” He said that it is important for the country to stick to the Budget Control Act that was passed in 2011.

When speaking about the Iran Deal, Sessions said that it might be difficult to stop.

“It will be a close vote,” Sessions said.

He went on to explain that it will take a 2/3 vote to reject the bill.

Sessions closed by saying that we, as a nation, have been “blessed beyond words” and that we need to try to preserve that.

“We provide leadership that no one else in the world does,” he said.
