MT LAUREL—Double Oak Community Church members made a difference in the lives of those more than 5,500 miles away this summer. Eleven church members spent several days this month doing mission work in Romania.

The DOCC mission team traveled into the mountains of Romania to Sucevita to set up a teen Bible camp for students at the local Richard Wurmbrand Christian School.

“We did a lot of Bible studies and we did a lot of worship together,” DOCC Missions Team Leader Mike Lindsey said.

With the help of DOCC Senior Pastor Adam Robinson and Student Pastor Brian Marbury, the mission team set up a camp similar to student life camps in America.

“We’re very fortunate, God has blessed us, we live in the heart of the Bible belt… they don’t have that,” Lindsey said. “For them to get a taste of pure fun and enjoyment and joy in worship, that’s just something they’ll remember.”

The experience in Romania also impacted the DOCC mission team and deepened their understanding of the Bible, Lindsey said.

“As we were preparing, we had to do our own Bible studies,” Lindsey said. “Through that, we grew and we learned a lot.”

Although the mission team is back in the United States, Lindsey said friendships formed throughout the camp have continued, thanks to Facebook and email.

“It will be neat to watch (the friendships) continue to grow,” Lindsey said.

After a successful first trip to Romania, Double Oak Community Church is planning a return in the future.

“We really hit a homerun,” Lindsey said. “(The students) have been so excited, and they’re ready for us to come back.”
