Head basketball coach Stacy McGehee was told Friday his contract will not be renewed with Vincent High School for the 2009-10 academic year.
McGehee, who has a 165-109 career record, led Vincent to a 57-29 record in three years and is now looking at other options.
“I think it’s just a money situation more than anything else. They lost a few positions. I guess mine was one of them,” he said. “I’m looking at what’s available, and I’ve put it in God’s hands. Wherever he leads us is where we’ll go.”
Vincent principal Gary Minnick said he was not allowed to comment on any non-renewals.
McGehee led Vincent to a Class 2A, Area 9 regular season championship and 18-11 record during his first season in 2006-07 and followed with two area regular season tournament championships and state regional appearances.
“The program is pretty much on the up swing,” McGehee said. “It’s very tough to leave. I knew it was going to be a fun ride the next few years with the talent they have and the success we’ve had. The goal next year was Birmingham because we knew what was coming back. It was going to be our success year.”
