MT LAUREL—One year ago, the Mt Laurel Library opened its doors at 111 Olmsted Street. Today, the library is a bustling center of activity, with shelves full of books and numerous programs for all ages.

On June 22, the Friends of the Mt Laurel Library are holding a celebration to mark the first year in the new library building. From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., people are invited to stop by the Mt Laurel Library to celebrate with cake.

“It’s the one year celebration of the new building,” Jen Nicholson, vice president of the Friends of the Mt Laurel Library said. “It’s a fun little celebration just to be excited that we have a new library building.”

The new library building is the result of years of hard work and fundraising from members of the Mt Laurel and Dunnavant Valley community. The project began from scratch more than a decade ago. Prior to moving into the 111 Olmsted Street location, the Mt Laurel Library was housed in a book shelf in Jimbo’s Soda Fountain.

Now, the 1,664-square-foot library has become a community place for people of all ages to meet, read and enjoy a number of activities.

“We’re pulling everyone in from that 41 corridor,” Nicholson said. “For the size of our building, we offer so much programming for adults and children.”

The Mt Laurel Library is currently in the midst of its busiest season. With summer reading programs for children, teens and adults, along with regular book club meetings, there is always something going on at the library.

“This summer is a really big time for the library,” Nicholson said. “The big focus is the summer reading.”
