CHELSEA – The Chelsea City Council reviewed on June 2 a rezoning request submitted for land that would comprise the proposed subdivision White Oak Manor off Shelby County 47 in Chelsea.

The rezoning request was submitted by Del Clayton and applies to two parcels of land containing about 140 acres that would be subdivided into 16 lots, according to the proposed ordinance.

“All we did was receive the recommendation from the (Chelsea) Planning Commission,” Councilman Tony Picklesimer said. “Now, we have to have a public hearing.”

Clayton is requesting to have the parcels re-zoned from agricultural-residential (A-R) to residential (E-1).

Residential zoning would allow for each lot in the subdivision to range in size from about 5 acres to more than 12 acres, City Clerk Becky Landers said.

Picklesimer said the Chelsea Planning Commission approved the rezoning request, which must also be approved by the City Council before taking effect.

The public hearing likely will be held at the City Council’s first meeting in July.

In other business, the City Council approved a bid for $8,605 from Shelby Fence Company for fencing improvements for the new parking lot on Liberty Road and Shelby County 47, next to the Chelsea Youth Fields.

Picklesimer said the fence will separate the parking lot from the houses next to it.
