HELENA–Helena residents, students and more often visit the Jane B. Homes Library in Helena to study, checkout books, use the Internet or just use it as a quiet place to go.

On Thursday, April 23, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. the library held an “I Love the Jane B. Holmes Library Day” that included a book sale, free book bags and refreshments. Library Director Daniel Dearing described the event as a time to bring people into the library.

“It’s just a small fundraiser for the library,” said Dearing. “It’s basically to try to get people to come in and get their card updated and to remember the library because the summer it starts to get busy. So if we can get more people in before it’s a little bit less work on us to try and get all that information and they can clear up any fines or update their library card.”

The book sale will take place from Thursday, April 23, through Saturday, April 25, that includes various genres including fiction, non-fiction, religious, health and more. Magazines, CDs, DVDs, cassettes and videos are also included in the book sale.

Prices for the sale are as follows: $1 for hardback books, 50 cents for paperback, 10 cents for magazines, $1 each for any CDs or DVDs and 50 cents each for cassettes and videos.

Dearing said the summer is one of the busiest times for the library, and said he encourages people to bring any book donations that are in good condition.

“We’re getting ready for summer, and when school gets out our business really changes and picks up because people are looking for something to do during the day,” said Dearing. “The library is a good economic, cool place to go all summer where you can keep your academic skills sharp.”
