HOOVER—The Hoover City Council appointed a new member to the Hoover Board of Education during an April 20 City Council meeting.

The City Council named Tuscaloosa County deputy district attorney and 12-year Hoover resident Jill Ganus Veitch to the BOE.

“It’s a big honor, especially to be part of the Hoover City Schools,” Ganus Veitch said in a post-meeting interview, noting the “all the national merit teachers” and “all the opportunities” the School System offers. “To be able to be a part of it is just a huge honor.”

Ganus Veitch was chosen from a pool of 15 applicants for the BOE position.

“There were numerous individuals who, in my opinion, were well qualified,” City Councilman Jack Natter said, expressing confidence in the City Council’s decision to appoint Ganus Veitch.

As deputy district attorney, Ganus Veitch advocates for children, specializing in crimes involving juvenile victims. Prior to serving as deputy district attorney in Tuscaloosa County, Ganus Veitch served as both an assistant district attorney and district judge in Jefferson County.

Ganus Veitch has a child in the Hoover City School System and has worked with the Spain Park High School law academy students. She will replace current BOE president and 10-year board member Donna Frazier, who chose not to apply for reappointment to the BOE after her second term. Ganus Veitch will begin her five-year term on June 1.

“I’m looking forward to getting out there,” Ganus Veitch said. “I’m going to make sure I do my very best to try and represent the stake holders.”
