Phil Dudley was always deeply immersed in music.

Although born and raised in Columbiana, the music culture he comes from is both unique and fascinating.

This third-generation musician will be playing his second album, “All In My Head,”with his talented band at the Shelby County Arts Council (SCAC) Saturday, May 9 at 8 p.m.

Phil Dudley’s musical skill originated with his grandparents, who toured across the U.S. in the 70s and 80s as traveling music ministers.

As you might imagine, their two boys grew up playing and carried their passion for music into the next generation. Dudley began playing piano at 10, then started singing, writing and playing guitar at 18.

His music is rooted in his experiences and discoveries. “My journey has brought me places that I don’t want to forget,”he says, “and writing about them is how I remember them.”

The band began as many do, rather organically, with a couple friends jamming together and a father and son performing at various venues.

Dudley’s uncle soon joined them and the band was formed. The band members, Jack Dudley, George Dudley, Erich Cousins and of course Phil Dudley, play mostly Indie Folk Rock, with country influences.

Dudley writes toward a specific goal. “If I can help someone make a connection in this world that is incredibly confusing and, at times, hopeless,”he states, “if I can help shed light on something that causes someone to feel alone or in the dark, then I feel that my music has served a purpose.”
