MONTGOMERY – The Cornerstone Charger baseball team traveled to play Eastwood Academy on Thursday, April 9 and continued their prodigious scoring rampage on their way to a 12-0 win.

Austin Andrews threw a two-hit complete game shutout in the Chargers win.

“Austin has really been pitching well all season for us and he seems to get better each time he takes the mound,” said head coach Tim Smith.  “He’s definitely getting ready for the playoffs which begin in a couple of weeks.”

The bats got going early as Ian Briggs hit the first pitch of the game for a double and later scored.  Briggs ended the night leading all batters, with his 4-4 performance that included a double and three singles.  Catcher Logan Tucker and left fielder JoJo Joiner went 2-4 on the night, Wil LaFollette added a single and a double, and center fielder Jeffery Odgers and third baseman Cade Adams added singles and runs scored.

Over the last five games, the Chargers have outscored their opponents by a ridiculous margin of 88-0 and allowed only two hits.

“We are really hitting the baseball well right now and trying to have a better approach at the plate,” Smith said.  “Our confidence continues to grow and we feel like we are peaking at the right time of the season.”

The Chargers play their final home game on Monday against Morgan Academy.  This will be the seniors’ final regular season home game.  CCS has also added a game on the schedule with powerhouse Glenwood Academy on Friday the 17th.

“I think its important for our kids to see some really good pitching to prepare us for the next few weeks as the playoffs get started,” added Smith.  “Our goal is to make it to Montgomery for the championship series, and playing high quality talent will help us get there.”
