PELHAM—Do you have any documents that need to be shredded? Bring them by the Pelham Public Library on May 2 and have them destroyed, free of charge.
From 8 a.m. until noon, attendants can bring up to six boxes of documents to be shredded by Shred-It USA.
The bi-annual event is popular and a useful tool for combating identity theft, Pelham Public Library Adult Services Director David Smith said.
“I’d have to say it’s one of our most popular events at the library,” Smith said. “It’s had remarkable success every time we’ve done it.”
Attendants are encouraged to bring any documents containing “personal information that you wouldn’t want anyone else to have,” Smith said. Documents will be destroyed immediately on site.
“You get it destroyed, and actually see it being destroyed,” Smith said. “All (attendants) have to do is pull up, and we’ll shred it.”
All paper documents will be accepted for shredding. CDs, DVDs and plastic items will not be accepted.
The May 2 event is free and no registration is required.
“It’s one small way we can serve the community,” Smith said.
