Four hospitalized after fire in Calera

CALERA- Four Calera residents are in the hospital tonight after being severely burned when their trailer caught fire this morning, Jan. 28.
One of the victims was a 1-year-old child who was airlifted to Children’s Hospital and is in the burn unit with extensive third degree burns.
Two of the three adults taken to the hospital are in the burn unit at UAB Medical Center and the remaining victim is in stable condition, also at UAB.
The fire broke out on 10th Street around 9:15 a.m. this morning and when the Calera Fire Department arrived on the scene there was already heavy flames and smoke present.
One victim was trapped inside the trailer and was rescued by Calera Fire and Police departments.
Three police officers were sent to the hospital suffering from smoke inhalation after helping with rescue efforts.
The cause of the fire is not yet known and the investigation is ongoing.
