On Sunday Jan. 25, The Pelham Tennis Center hosted its 28th annual Polar-Bear Tournament to benefit the Two-By-Two Animal Rescue in Pelham.

Two-By-Two Animal Rescue is a non-profit organization based out of Helena.

“This is always great,” said Debbie Vines, tournament organizer and Two-By-Two Animal Rescue Volunteer. “There is always a great turn-out and people are always very generous.”

All workers with Two-By-Two Animal Rescue are volunteers and most have full-time jobs.

“We are a faith-based organization,” said Vines. “We only function out of foster homes, we do not have a shelter but we are hoping at some point to get a shelter because we really need one.”

Vines said that foster homes for rescued animals are always needed.

“The more foster homes we have the more animals we can help,” said Vines.

The tournament raised $641 for the rescue program.

Jim Matlock came in first place in the men’s category and there was a three-way tie for the winner of the women’s competition among Laura Partain, Katie Prodoehl and Carol Boykin.
