FROM STAFF REPORTS

COLUMBIANA – A blood drive will be held in honor of Mollie Wilder on Jan. 16 at First Baptist Church in Columbiana from 1-7 p.m.

Mollie is a local child whose battle with cancer has highlighted the critical need for blood donors, according to an email from Reneé Wilder, Mollie’s mother.

The drive on Jan. 16 is intended to help raise awareness for the need for blood and platelet donations, particularly for children with cancer, some of whom get blood and platelet transfusions several times a week and sometimes have to wait when none are available.

The goal for the blood drive is 73 donors.

Appointments can be made by going to Redcrossblood.org and using the keyword “molliewilder” (no spaces).

Those who do not live in the area are urged to contact their local Red Cross organizations and make an appointment to donate.
