Local seniors ages 60 and older are being encouraged to apply for benefits that are being offered under the Farmers Market Nutrition Program.
If approved for the program participants will receive five $6 vouchers that can be used at any participating roadside stand or farmers market.
Seniors may apply for the benefits program by visiting buylocalalabama.com; however, if you are not comfortable, or don’t have access to the Internet, you can contact the Middle Alabama Area Agency on Aging at 1-866-570-2998. You must have Internet Explorer 6 to complete the application online.
The application process only takes a few moments to complete and information such as your name, address, race, date of birth, number of people living in your household and monthly income will be required.
Eligibility is based on monthly income. A recipient’s income may not exceed the following limits: $1,605 for a household of one; $2,163 for a household of two; $2,721 for a household of three; $3,279 for a household of four. Documentation is not required.
Completing the application does not guarantee receipt of Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program benefits because funds are limited.
Seniors are encouraged to apply to the program as soon as possible.
