AUG. 28

Pelham falls to Hoover, takes Vestavia Hills

The Pelham Panthers split a tri-match with the Hoover Bucs and the Vestavia Hills Rebels on Aug. 28. In the opener, the Panthers fell in two sets to the Buccaneers, 25-16 and 26-24. Erin Hines posted seven kills, Sarah Sudd had five and Autumn Hiett had four, while Hayley Brisendine nine digs and Josie Harwood had three aces. In the second match, the Panthers swept the Rebels, 25-15 and 25-23. Hiett posted 12 kills while Erin Hines had six, Brisendine led the team in digs with 14 and Hiett had three aces.

Chelsea takes down Jeff Davis

The Hornets took on the Volunteers of Jeff Davis in a regular season match on Aug. 28. A strong offensive showing by the Hornets led to a sweep of the Vols. In the three sets, the Hornets took wins of 25-18, 25-9 and 25-20, respectively. Madison Turner had nine kills, nine assists and five digs, while Destinee Benton posted eight kills, Caiti David had six aces, three digs and two blocks. Taylor Hackett led the team in assists with 11, along with four kills.

AUG. 29

Panthers open Mayor’s Cup with wins

The Pelham Panthers travelled to Montgomery to participate in the Mayor’s Cup tournament. The opening day of the weekend tournament proved to be a success, as the Panthers took down both opponents faced. In the opener, Pelham took down UMS-Wright in two sets, winning 25-12 and 25-17, respectively. Erin Hines paced the Panthers with eight kills, while Sarah Sudd finished with seven. Hayley Brisendine had eight kills, while Sudd had four aces and Brisendine had three. In the match against Donoho, Hines had 15 kills, while Brisendine posted eight digs while Hiett and Jordan Allison had four apiece. Sudd led aces with five, while Hiett and Josie Harwood had two.

Hornets split opening night at Briarwood tourney

Chelsea volleyball took part in the Briarwood Tournament Aug. 29-30, a and split the two games they played the first night of the tournament. The Hornets won the first match against Tuscaloosa County, 2-1. After falling in the first set, 25-17, the Hornets took the next two sets, 25-7 and 15-13, respectively. Madison Turner led the way with nine kills, nine assists and seven digs. Destinee Benton had 11 digs and Caiti Davis posted eight aces. In their second round matchup with Muscle Shoals, the Hornets came up short, falling in three sets, 25-22, 20-25 and 14-16. Turner posted 10 digs and six kills, Benton had 10 digs and eight kills, Sarah Quick had 11 digs and Taylor Hackett had 12 assists and four digs.

AUG. 30 

Panthers continue success in Mayor’s Cup

The Pelham Panthers went on a roll in the second day of the Mayor’s Cup tournament in Montgomery, going 3-1 on the day. In the opener, The Panthers took down Prattville Christian, 2-0. Autumn Hiett led the team with kills with six, while Sarah Sudd had five, Erin Hines had five digs, Courtney Hayhurst had three blocks and Sudd and Emily Jackson each posted three aces. The Panthers then also swept Jeff Davis, 2-0. Sudd posted eight kills while Hines had six, Hayley Brisendine had 10 digs and Hiett and Jackson had three acres apiece. Pelham moved on to face Addison, taking the Bulldogs in three sets. Hines posted 10 kills, while Hiett had eight. Brisendine posted 20 digs and Hiett nine, while Hayhurst had two blocks and Sudd had two aces. In the final match, the Panthers fell to Montgomery Academy in two sets. Hines and Sudd both had five kills, Brisendine had 11 digs and Hiett had three aces. The Panthers moved to 6-2 following the tournament.

SEP. 2

Hornets sweep tri-match

The Chelsea High volleyball squad took on Vestavia Hills and Tuscaloosa County in a tri-match competition on Sep. 2. In the first match against Vestavia Hills, the Hornets swept the Rebels 26-24 and 25-22, respectively. In the Vestavia Hills contest Madison Turner led the Hornets with 17 digs, 10 assists and five kills. Taylor Hackett registered 11 assists in the match. Chelsea also swept the Black Bears 25-12 and 25-21. Turner had 16 assists, nine kills, five digs and four aces. Lexie Riggins logged six kills and Sarah Quick posted five kills and five digs.

Warriors best Carver-Montgomery

The Thompson Warriors volleyball squad took on the Carver-Montgomery Wolverines on Sept. 2. The Warriors swept the match, taking set wins of 25-21, 25-8 and 25-17. Kelsea Bivins lead Thompson with 10 digs, 16 kills, an ace and four blocks, while Tara Miller had two digs, six aces, 22 assists and two kills and Milea Ray had nine kills and four digs.
