COLUMBIANA – A 48-year-old Calera man will spend the next 16 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to distributing methamphetamine and heroin in Alabaster and Calera.

Shelby County Circuit Court Judge Dan Reeves originally sentenced Kenneth Eugene Carter, who lists an address in the 700 block of 15^th Street in Calera, to 130 months in prison, but split the sentence between 16 months in prison followed by three years of supervised probation. He received 83 days of jail credit for time already served in the Shelby County Jail.

Carter also must pay for and complete a substance abuse treatment program, surrender his driver’s license and pass random alcohol and drug tests.

According to Carter’s arrest warrants, he dealt meth from his home on Jan. 23 and Jan. 24, and dealt heroin in the 300 block of Wooten Road in Alabaster on April 2.

The Calera Police Deparmtent arrested Carter on May 27 and charged him with three counts of distribution of a controlled substance and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Through a plea agreement, one of Carter’s distribution of a controlled substance charges and his possession of drug paraphernalia charges were dropped.
