VINCENT—The Shelby County Board of Education unanimously approved Dr. Michele Edwards as principal for Vincent Middle/High School during a meeting at the Shelby County Instructional Services Center on Aug. 14.
Edwards, who has 16 years experience in education, is currently the assistant principal at Calera High School. Prior to her work at Calera, Edwards taught English and broadcasting at Chelsea High School where she served as head girls’ basketball coach.
“Shelby County is a great system to be working for and this opportunity is amazing for me,” Edwards told board members. “I’m very eager to get going.”
Edwards obtained a bachelor’s degree in English and health education and a master’s degree in health education from Troy State University. She earned a master’s degree in educational administration at Jacksonville State University. Edwards earned her educational specialist and doctor of education in educational leadership from the University of Alabama.
“(Vincent is) a community that has always had a strong relationship background, and I just want to continue that,” Edwards said in an interview following the meeting. “I want to build a strong background with the faculty and continue to help the students of Vincent become as great as they can be.”
Edwards will replace Joel Dixon, who was recently appointed as principal at Calera High School.
