Dunnaway named Super All-State selection

Cornerstone Christian ace pitcher Chelsey Dunnaway has been named to the Alabama Sports Writers Association Super All-State Softball Team.
Dunnaway, who led Cornerstone to its third-consecutive AISA Class 1A state championship on May 2, was also named AISA Most Valuable Player and AISA Pitcher of the Year. She completing the season with a 32-3 record in the pitching circle. Dunnaway struck out 310 of her 473 batters faced in 143 innings of pitching. She allowed only 40 hits and four walks, leading to a .08 opposing batting average and 0.24 earned run averaged.
Offensively, Dunnaway was fifth on the team, hitting .438 for the year. She hit a team-high five triples.
Dunnaway joins Miss Softball Hilary Phillips of Ider on the Super All-State team, as well as pitchers Abby MacKay of Sparkmanand, Leigha Streetman of Hueytown, Morgan Druhan of Spanish Fort, Heather Parker of Mortimer Jordan, Cara Law of Saks, Lauren Seibert of West Morgan and Kylie Black of Speake. Pisgah catcher Shelby Holley is the only non-pitcher.
Eight other Shelby County softball players were recognized on the ASWA All-State teams, as Oak Mountain’s Jessica Cooley and Pelham’s Hailey Glynn were named to the Class 6A All-State team as outfielders. Shelby County’s Jessica Pennington received honorable mention as a utility player in Class 5A. Montevallo’s Shanise Hudson was named a Class 3A All-State outfielder and Cornerstone’s Hope Anderson was named an AISA All-State outfielder. Cornerstone’s Destiny Dillard and Kingwood’s Kaylyn Ingram and Whitney Gillespie were all AISA honorable mentions.
