Ever want to write for the Shelby County Reporter?

I know what you’re thinking. You’re probably asking yourself, “What’s your angle, Granthum?”

Actually some of you out there are probably asking yourself, “If Granthum can do it, why can’t I?”

If you think you’d like to be a community sports columnist, we’re looking for you. In the next few months, we want to expand our voices sports-wise within the community.

We’re looking for several people to write weekly sports stories for the Shelby County Reporter. These columnists will write a story and submit a corresponding photo each week.  Ideally, they’ll be local residents and be able to find stories from across the county.

If you fit that criteria and you’re interested, we’d love to talk to you. We’re looking for people who can write about different types of sports, including youth league, outdoor recreation, adult sports, hunting and fishing and equestrian.

In charge of a little league sports league? We’d love a column about a player overcoming the odds, similar to our story on Bishop Weidenbach last summer. Coaching a rec league softball team? If you could send us an update a week, that would be great. Into the great outdoors and know some tricks of the trade on finding a prime spot on Lay Lake? You have our attention.

There are so many people who know the ins and outs and the heart and soul of the sports and recreation of Shelby County, and we’d love to have you contribute to the newspaper. The Shelby County Reporter also pays its sports and community columnists.

In order for you to write for us, we ask that you have access to email and a reliable form of transportation. Also, you’ll need to write a sample story that we will assign.
