PELHAM—Looking for good beach reads this summer? Check them out from the Pelham Public Library and you could be a winner.
The Pelham Public Library will once again hold the annual Adult Summer Reading program, open to anyone 18 and over.
From June 2 through July 31, each time a patron checks out five or more books, audio books or magazines, they can enter to win a prize, and there is no limit to number of entries. This years prizes include a variety of gift cards.
The library introduced the program as a way to inspire adults to read and discover all that the library has to offer.
“There was already a children’s reading program,” Pelham Public Library adult services coordinator David Smith said. “We wanted something to attract adults to the library and get the to come and see what we have here.”
Now in its ninth year, the program has been a hit. The library usually sees “upwards of 3,000 items checked out” during the two-month program, Smith said.
“We’ve had people check out as many as 18 or 20 items at once, there’s no limit to how much you can check out,” Smith said.
While fiction is usually most popular, Smith said the types of literature patrons choose to read varies.
“Since it’s vacation time, people often check out beach reads and light fiction,” Smith said, but he noted the “tried and true authors” found upstairs in the library are also popular.
Smith said he will draw winning entries at the close of the program, and winners will be contacted in early August. For more information and rules, visit Pelhamlibrary.com.
