CALERA—Calera Chamber of Commerce president Holly Stanley is passionate about the importance of law enforcement. Stanley cites being married to a law enforcement officer for over a decade as one reason, and a concern for safety as another.
“These (candidates) are who we elect to further our community. So I feel like you need to be informed as a voter. Choose candidates based on their words,” Stanley said.
To help citizens make informed decisions about the upcoming election, the Calera Chamber of Commerce will host the candidates at the May 20 luncheon, where they will speak about their platform and answer questions.
So far, Ken Bailey, John Samaniego and Rick Needham are confirmed to attend the event, and the chamber is still reaching out to other candidates.
Questions can be submitted on Facebook or at the luncheon, Stanley said, and encouraged even those who are unable to attend the luncheon to submit questions as well.
Gun control and school safety are two important topics, which many people have already expressed an interest in learning about, Stanley said.
“As a member of a business, this community, and as a mother, I want to make sure I am safe,” Stanley said.
The luncheon, held at Timberline Golf Club at 11:30 a.m., is open to the public. The luncheon is $12 for members of the chamber, and $15 for nonmembers. Lunch will be provided.
“We would love to have as many people who want to come as possible,” Stanley said.
