NORTH SHELBY — As of 8:15 a.m. April 10, the natural gas leak that led to the shutdown of Alabama 119 has been contained.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s office said in a news release that the gas line is being repaired after it was ruptured in a car wreck. Alabama State Troopers and sheriff’s deputies are in the process of reopening the roadway.

“It will be open to all traffic in a matter of minutes,” the news release reads.

The Shelby County Board of Education will determine when it is safe to open Oak Mountain elementary and middle schools. Oak Mountain Elementary School students were sent to Oak Mountain Intermediate School and Oak Mountain Middle School students were sent to Oak Mountain High School. Buses were re-routed accordingly.

Motorists are urged drive with caution in the area, as there will be first responders and Alagasco crews there for some time.
