MONTEVALLO—Construction is slated to begin on major improvements to Montevallo’s Dailey Park neighborhood, six years after the project first began.

The City of Montevallo received bids on the project from seven interested contractors and determined Walker Patton Company to be the qualified low bidder for the project with a submitted total of $398,335 for the project.

The estimated total is actually under the $550,000 set aside for the project, but the difference will allow room for any unforeseen costs, said Councilman Don Hughes.

The Montevallo City Council unanimously approved a resolution Feb. 24, which allows Mayor Hollie Cost to enter into a contract on behalf of the City of Montevallo with Walker Patton Company.

Planned improvements for the area include street and sidewalk repair, sewage and drainage repair and grassing and restoration. In addition, new street signs will be installed and old buildings will be demolished.

Pre-construction is slated to begin in the middle of March, and the project should be fully under way by April, said Terry Acuff of Community Consultants.
