Dear Editor,
This Korean War and Vietnam veteran, having served 38 months in Korea and two tours in Vietnam, upon returning to the good old U.S. of A. (San Francisco) I was called a “baby killer”, “A Pawn of the Establishment”, and spat upon and refused taxi service while in uniform.
America has had a change of heart and a change of attitude since the decades of the 60’s and 70’s.
Today, many individuals appreciate what our military has done, is doing and the projected for the future. Each day for the last 3-5 years, I have received a number of “Thank you for Your Service” from family, friend and strangers while wearing a Korean or Vietnam Vet hat. Keep the comments coming.
There is a poem that I read more than 50 years ago that goes:
God and the soldier, All Men
Adore, in time of War
And not before, when the war is
Ended and all things lighted.
God is forgotten and the old
Soldier slighted.
May we never forget God or slight our old soldiers.
