HARPERSVILLE—Dolly, a 30-year-old chestnut mare, was found after a nerve-wracking 2 days about a mile from her house, Pamela Ibrahim said.
Ibrahim, owner of El Gezira Riding Academy in Harpersville, said they suspect Dolly bolted during the storm the night of Wednesday, Feb. 12. The ice hitting the tin roof of the barn most likely instigated her flight, Ibrahim said.
“She’s very tired. It’s going to take a couple of days for her to make a comeback,” Ibrahim said.
El Gezira Riding Academy offers lessons, training, overnight camps, horseshows and travel. The club also works with special needs children, and offers therapeutic horse lessons.
Though Dolly specializes in therapeutic riding sessions for special needs children, she really “does it all,” Ibrahim said.
Ibrahim spread the word on social media that Dolly was missing, and many supporters reached out on Facebook to express their concern for the beloved horse.
“Very sad. Thank you to everyone who is looking for her. She is very special to me,” read one post.
After Ibrahim announced Dolly’s safe return, many expressed their joy at her safe return.
“Oh, I am so happy you found her. We love Dolly,” one supporter posted.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to have her back,” said Ibrahim.
