A 39-year-old Alabaster man’s 10 felony possession of child pornography charges have been bound over to a Shelby County grand jury to take up during an upcoming session.
According to court documents, Steven Christopher Kelban’s 10 possession of child pornography charges were bound over to a grand jury on Jan. 27. The grand jury will review the details of the charges during an upcoming session, and will determine if the charges should be upheld or not.
Kelban, whose residence is listed on Independence Drive in Alabaster, was booked into the Shelby County Jail on Sept. 24, 2013. He was arrested by the Alabama Department of Public Safety on Sept. 24.
According to Kelban’s arrest warrant, he allegedly “did knowingly possess any obscene matter containing a visual depiction of a person under the age of 17 years of age engaged in any act of sado-machoistic abuse, sexual intercourse, sexual excitement, masturbation, genital nudity or other sexual conduct” on Aug. 30, 2013.
Kelban allegedly possessed sexually explicit webcam footage of an underage female, according to court documents.
He has remained in the Shelby County Jail on bonds totaling $500,000 since his arrest. According to a court scheduling document, Kelban’s charges will be set for an expedited grand jury hearing “since the defendant is incarcerated.”
Possession of child pornography is a Class C felony. If convicted, Kelban could face up to 10 years in prison per charge.
