Cornerstone boys split games at regionals

The Cornerstone Christian Chargers split two matches in the AISA regional basketball tournament, taking down Abbeville Christian Academy 66-54, but falling to the Lakeside School, 54-50.

In the opener, the Chargers were paced by the duo of Lee Mooney and Najjar Williams, who recorded 26 and 21 points, respectively. In addition to leading scoring, Mooney also posted nine rebounds and two assists. Dustin Wooley and Griffin Moore both posted six points apiece in the win.

While the opening round victory gave the Chargers momentum heading into the second round, the Chargers put up a tough fight but fell to the Lakeside School Chiefs, 54-50.

The pair of Mooney and Williams led the way scoring for the Chargers once again, as Williams paced CCS with 15 points and two steals, whiel Mooney had 10 points, seven rebounds and a block. Moore also chipped in nine points in the loss. With the loss, the Chargers regroup to take on Chambers Christian Feb. 3 to decide seeding in the state tournament, held in Montgomery.
