“Choose an activity that will get you moving,” said Sandy Evers, physical education teacher for the new Forest Oaks School. “You have to get moving. Any activity you will look forward to gets you started. And, it doesn’t have to be something we normally think of as exercise.”
Chelsea has a lot of unusual fitness activities to choose from, beyond the traditional fitness centers.
“Can you imagine how much fun they will have doing aerobics with pom-poms and cheerleading moves?” asked Krystle Colvin, owner of Loud-N-Proud Cheernastics. “We train junior high and high school students to help them make cheer squads, and push our older girls to help them land college scholarships.”
Colvin plans to offer adult tumbling and ‘cheer-obics.’ Imagine an awesome tumbling pass down their trampoline track.
“We teach Zumba and yoga for adults and will again, soon offer adult bar,” said Katie Alder, owner of That’s The Pointe Dance Studio.
That’s The Pointe Dance’s mission is to teach children and teens to … “shine through dance,” and you can almost hear the ‘shine’ in Alder’s voice as she describes her classes. No wonder, Zumba has everyone’s heart pumping these days. It’s fun, rhythmic dance aerobics. On the other end of the spectrum, they offer the calming, stretching, core strengthening of yoga also.
Other businesses that offer fun ways to get in shape include Dance South Studio and Oyama Karate.
“Dance South Studio provides the highest quality dance instruction to Chelsea/Shelby County students,” describes, owner, Nina Maniscalco. “We will offer adult tap and ball room classes again this summer/fall.”
Oyama Karate just posted a New Year promotion on the board at their County Road 280 dojo. What a great way to ‘kick off’ 2014.
