Alabaster City Schools will close at 11:30 a.m., Shelby County Schools will close at 11:30 a.m., and Hoover City Schools will close at 11:15 a.m. due to inclement weather, school officials have announced.

The University of Montevallo has closed today, effective immediately, and will open at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29. All extracurricular activities are also canceled at UM today.

Buses will run their regular routes after students are dismissed, and there will be no extended day or afterschool activities today.

“Shelby County Schools will continue to work with the Shelby County EMA to monitor road conditions and will make a decision on plans for school on Wednesday at a later time this afternoon,” Shelby County Schools spokeswoman Cindy Warner wrote in an email. “Parents will be notified via Blackboard Connect, the Shelby County School’s website, and through the local media once a decision has been reached regarding Wednesday.”

Due to the threat of continued winter weather, Alabaster schools will be closed on Wendesday, Jan. 29.

After schools open on Wednesday, they will operate on a regular schedule, including extended day and afterschool programs.
