A 27-year-old Calera man has been indicted on a felony charge of impersonating a peace officer after police said he claimed to be a Federal Bureau of Investigation agent in Alabaster in January 2013.

During its December 2013 session, a Shelby County grand jury indicted Calera resident Calvin Dreon Meadows on one count of impersonating a peace officer – a Class C felony.

The Alabaster Police Department arrested Meadows on Jan. 19 after police said Meadows allegedly entered the Alabaster Hallmark store, claimed to be an FBI agent and asked to view the store’s surveillance camera footage. When the store employee asked to see Meadows’ credentials, the suspect was unable to produce them and became “somewhat hostile,” Alabaster Police Chief Curtis Rigney said when Meadows was arrested.

Rigney said his department notified the FBI of the incident after arresting Meadows.

Meadows is scheduled to be arraigned on the felony charge during a Feb. 3 hearing at the Shelby County Courthouse.

If convicted of the crime, Meadows could face between one and 10 years in prison.
