MONTEVALLO – For a chance to time travel this holiday season, look no further than American Village in Montevallo, which will host A Colonial Christmas lunch and tour Dec. 10-12.

For the lunch and tour, the American Village will be decorated for Christmas inspired by 18th-century styles and traditions and will give visitors a taste of what Christmas would have been like in the 1700s.

Tours will begin at 10:30 a.m. or noon each day, with morning tours ending with lunch and afternoon tours beginning with lunch, said American Village marketing and communications coordinator Melanie Poole. Ticket prices are $25 and include both the tour and meal, Poole said.

Lunch will be held in the East Room, a replica of the East Room at the White House, and will be hosted by First Lady Dolley Madison.

Next, visitors will meet American’s first president, George Washington, at the President’s House.

Visitors will learn more about life in the 1700s with a telling of Christmas stories and traditions of the White House at the Oval Office. Visitors will then sing Christmas carols in the Colonial Chapel.

The tour ends with an 18th-century dance performance and what Poole calls “a humorous lesson in 18th-century etiquette as the Yuletide season begins.”
