CHELSEA – Chelsea City Councilwoman Juanita Champion couldn’t come to the council’s Nov. 5 meeting due to a recent surgery, so the council came to her instead.
Mayor Earl Niven announced Champion underwent surgery last week and is resting at home. After approving several resolutions and ordinances, including a Chelsea Planning Commission request to rezone 36 acres off Chelsea Road for the city’s new $3.35 million, 28,000-square-foot community center slated to begin construction by spring, the council motioned to adjourn its meeting and reconvene at Champion’s house to approve payment of the city’s bills.
“If anyone of you would like to come to her house, you’re welcome to do so, but we’re only paying the bills,” Niven said. “And maintaining [Champion’s] perfect attendance.”
Champion represents Place 5 on the council.
