FROM STAFF REPORTS
After a hard luck start to the season for the University of Montevallo women’s soccer team, they were able to score their first victory of the year in dominating fashion on Oct. 16. The Falcons rolled over the Hurricanes from Georgia Southwestern by the final score of 3-0.
Montevallo fired away to start the game and finally got on the board at 25:17 when freshman Michaela Graber scored her third goal on the season to continue her impressive first year.
A freshman was responsible for the first goal of the game, but two seniors would come up big and extend the Falcon lead. Right before halftime, Christine Prince recorded her first goal of the season on a second chance opportunity after she controlled her own rebound in the box.
Paige Scott joined the scoring frenzy later in the contest. Her fourth goal of the year came off a ball from Camilla Alderin and moved her ahead of Graber for the team lead in goals and extended her position as the team leader in points.
Scott’s goal would be the third and final tally of the game, as Montevallo went on to win by the score of 3-0.
The Falcons outshot the Hurricanes by 34. Of Montevallo’s 36 shots, 22 were on goal. Georgia Southwestern’s first shot of the game did not come until the 86th minute.
Montevallo will look to build off their win on Saturday, October 19, when they host USC Aiken on Senior Night at Varsity Field. The game will start at 5 p.m.
