VINCENT — The Vincent Yellow Jackets returned to friendly confines Oct. 4 for a dominating 31-6 win over the Victory Christian Lions on homecoming.

The Lions won the opening coin toss and elected to receive to begin the game. After a three and out, Victory was forced to punt, but hit a snag with a botched snap on the punt. Vincent pounced, dragging the kicker down at the Victory 18 yard line.

After a loss of yards on a holding penalty on first down, the Yellow Jackets made short work of the great field position, scoring on a Michael Gilham pass to Quartez Walker for a 25 yard score to take an early 6-0 lead.

The Vincent Defense made quick work of the Lions’ second drive, getting the offense the ball back at their own 27. Michael Gilham found receiver Jace Greene for a 54 yard pick up to the Victory 17-yard line, followed up with a Rodney Groce 17-yard run for another Vincent score, extending the lead to 12-0 in the first quarter.

Another Victory three-and-out gave the Yellow Jackets, and they made short work of scoring again as Gilham found Daniel Hawkins wide open behind the secondary for a 69-yard touch down pass, and an 18-0 lead.

The first quarter scoring concluded with a Gilham-to-Greene fade into the corner of the end zone for a 25-0 Vincent lead with 38 seconds left in the opening quarter.

The Yellow Jackets picked up right where they left off in the second with a Ar’Shon Wills swing pass to Randy Ryan Henderson, who reversed field to find the pylon for a 31-0 lead.

The junior varsity squads took over the game for the second half, as the Lions attempted a comeback. After a fumbled Vincent snap, Victory found the end zone for the Lion’s first and only score of the night, as the teams would swap three and outs to end the game, 31-6.

After the game, Coach Hill said while he hopes that his seniors made memories to last a lifetime on their last homecoming, he wanted his team focused on the second half of the season.

“The games that are coming up for us are absolutely vital,” Coach said, “The thing about it that’s good though is the fact that we still do continue to hold our destiny in our hands (because) if we can win out, then we’re in the playoffs”

The Yellow Jackets will travel to Fultondale Oct. 11, before returning home for their third straight region match up, this time hosting Ohatchee.
