Frank Edward “Ed” Whitley, age 84, of Hoover, formerly of Shelby, passed away on Sept. 29 with his family at his side. Ed was born and raised in the Acipco community in Birmingham. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Whitley; and his sister, Elizabeth Smith.

Ed was a devoted husband, loving father and beloved grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betsy Williams Whitley; three daughters, Jane Henderson, Nancy Wesson (Barry) and Mary Lynn Goolsby; grandsons, Dale, Blake and Dylan; great-grandchildren; sister, Ellen Lang; nephews, Ron and Brian Lang; other nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Ed was a member of Hall Park Community Center, where he worshipped and served alongside many dear friends for over 30 years. He enjoyed a career at ACIPCO that spanned a period of 45 years where his employment included serving as general foreman and superintendent of the machine shops.

In Ed’s spare time he loved spending time with family, playing golf with good friends and fishing in Lay Lake. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

The family will receive friends on Oct. 2 from 2–3 p.m. at Bolton Funeral Home in Columbiana. Funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 3 p.m.
